Managing Redirections in cPanel

This article explains how to use the Redirects feature in cPanel to forward one URL to another. It also covers redirect types, how to add or remove redirects, and how cPanel applies redirect rules automatically.

What redirects in cPanel are used for

The Redirects feature in cPanel allows you to send visitors from one URL to another. This is used when a page or website location changes.

You can use redirects for several purposes on your website. These help ensure users are directed to the correct or updated page.

  • Send users from an old page to a new page
  • Redirect one domain to another domain
  • Keep traffic and search rankings after URL changes
  • Fix broken or outdated links

How to add redirects in cPanel

To add a redirect, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your cPanel
  2. Scroll down to the Domains section and click on Redirects
  3. Select a redirect Type
    • Permanent (301) - This indicates that a website has permanently moved to a new location and signals search engines to update their index to the new URL.
    • Temporary (302) - This indicates that a website has been moved temporarily. It is commonly used during maintenance or short-term changes and does not update search engine records.
  4. Select a domain or All Public Domains in the https?://(www.)? field.
  5. In the / field, enter the remaining part of the URL you want to redirect. For example, if you are redirecting https://yourdomain.com/folder/filename.php, enter folder/filename.php
  6. In the Redirects to field, enter the URL where you want your site visitors to be redirected.
  7. In the www. redirection field, select one of the following:
    • Only redirect with www. — Redirects only users who access the URL with the www. prefix.
    • Redirect with or without www. — Redirects all users, whether or not the www. prefix is used.
    • Do Not Redirect www. — Does not apply the redirect to users who access the URL with the www.
  8. Click Add to save the redirection.

How to delete redirects in cPanel
