Managing Redirections in Plesk

This article explains how to manage URL redirections in Plesk, including what redirections are, why they are used, and how to create and remove redirects for domains or specific URLs within your hosting account.

Understand redirections in Plesk

Redirections in Plesk allow you to automatically forward visitors from one website to another. This is commonly used when a domain changes, a page is moved, or multiple domains need to point to a single website.

Create a redirect in Plesk

You can create a redirection through the Plesk control panel to forward traffic from one domain to another.

  1. Log in to your Plesk.
  2. Go to Websites & Domains.
  3. Click the domain that you want to redirect to see more options.
  4. Click on the Hosting & DNS tab.
  5. Click Hosting. This opens the Hosting Settings panel.
  6. In the Type field, select Forwarding.
  7. Enter the URL of the destination website in the Forward visitors to field.
  8. Select a Forwarding type
    • Moved permanently (code 301) - This indicates that a website has permanently moved to a new location and signals search engines to update their index to the new URL.
    • Moved temporarily (code 302) - This indicates that a website has been moved temporarily. It is commonly used during maintenance or short-term changes and does not update search engine records.

  9. Click SAVE.

The redirect will become active immediately after saving.
