Upcoming ICANN Registration Data Policy (RDP) Changes

As part of ICANN’s ongoing efforts to standardize and safeguard registration data across registrars and registries, updates to the Registration Data Policy (RDP) are set to go live by 21 August 2025.

NOTE. This is the official ICANN deadline, but the changes may be implemented earlier.

These updates will impact both the domain purchase flows and the Members Area for new and existing users. Below is a key change to be aware of:

Registrant Organization as the Legal Owner & Consent to Publish

  • Starting 21 August 2025:
    • If the Business Name field is filled during domain registration, that business will be designated as the Registered Name Holder (i.e., the legal owner) of the domain.
    • If the Business Name field is left blank, the individual registrant will be considered the legal owner.
    • By default, the Business Name (if provided) will be redacted from public view in Registration Data Directory Services (RDDS), such as WHOIS and RDAP.

Option to Publish Business Name in RDDS (WHOIS/RDAP)

Customers will have the option to publish their Business Name in the Registration Data Directory Services (RDDS), such as WHOIS and RDAP, directly from the Members Area.

Members Area Notifications

To ensure clarity, we’re introducing in-panel notifications within the domain management section. These notifications will:

  • Inform customers that the Registrant Organization (Business Name) will be redacted by default from RDDS.
  • Provide a simple opt-in option for customers who wish to publish their organization details.

This update applies to all existing domains on our platform. The Business Name will remain redacted until the registrant explicitly provides consent to publish.

Consent to publish

Domain Contact Modification

  • When a customer updates their domain contact details in the Members Area, a message will appear explaining domain ownership information and offering the option to provide consent for publishing the Business Name.

Storefront Domain Purchase

During the domain purchase process, customers will see a message informing them that if a Business Name is entered, the business will be recorded as the legal owner of the domain.

For all new domain registrations where a Business Name is provided, it will be redacted by default in Registration Data Directory Services (RDDS). Customers can later choose to provide consent to publish this information through the Members Area.
