How Long Does It Take for DNS Records to Resolve

When you update your DNS records, the changes are not applied instantly across the internet. This process is known as DNS propagation, and it may take some time before the updates become visible worldwide. Typically, DNS changes can take 48–72 hours to fully propagate. The exact time depends on several factors, including your DNS provider, internet service provider (ISP), and caching settings.

How to check DNS propagation

You can use online tools to check whether your DNS changes have been propagated globally.

What to do if DNS changes are not working

  • DNS propagation can take up to 48-72 hours. Allow some time for the updates to take effect.
  • Clear your browser cache. Your browser may still be loading cached DNS information. Clear your browser cache and try again.
  • Flush your local DNS cache. Flushing your DNS cache can help retrieve updated records.
  • Try a different network. Switch to a different internet connection or mobile network to check if the issue is related to ISP caching.
  • Verify DNS records
  • DNS records are entered correctly
  • No duplicate records exist
  • Record types are correct
