Transfer a Domain Away From Crazy Domains
This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to transfer your domain name away from Crazy Domains to another registrar. By following this guide, you will learn what preparations are needed and how to complete the transfer process successfully.
Before you start
Before transferring your domain to another registrar, make sure the following requirements are met:
- Your domain is unlocked
- You have your Authorization Code (EPP code) ready
- The domain is not expired or in redemption period
- The domain has no domain privacy
- You have access to the domain’s registrant email address (this is needed for approval emails)
Some domains may be subject to a 60-day transfer lock under rules from ICANN. This may apply if:
- The domain is newly registered, or
- The domain was recently transferred, or
- The registrant contact details were recently changed (depending on registry rules)
During this period, the domain cannot be transferred to another registrar.
Step 1: Prepare your domain for transfer
To prepare your domain name for transfer, log in to your Crazy Domains Account and do the following:
- Unlock your domain. Ensure your domain name is not locked to avoid domain transfer issues.
- Get your Authorization Code (EPP code). This is required to initiate the transfer with your new domain registrar.
- Disable domain privacy. If you have a domain privacy enabled, make sure to disable it. This is to ensure that the registrant email of your domain is not hidden or proxied.
- Ensure access to the domain registrant email. Make sure your domain’s registrant email address is correct and accessible. This is used for transfer approval.
- Save a copy of your current DNS settings. If you are using the DNS Settings in the Crazy Domains Account, the DNS will only work while the domain is registered with us. Once transferred out, you will need to set up your DNS again in your new registrar account. So, make sure you have a copy of your DNS settings before you start the domain transfer.
If you are not using the DNS in the Account Manager, no action is needed.
For .UK domain
If you are transferring away a .UK domain, please follow these steps:
- Contact your new domain registrar and request their IPS tag.
- Once you have the IPS tag, contact our Customer Support team.
- Ask the team to update your domain’s IPS tag to the one provided by your new registrar.
Step 2: Start the transfer with your new registrar
To start the domain transfer, complete the following steps:
- Log in to your new domain registrant account.
- Enter the domain authorization code when it asks for it (they might call this a domain password, EPP code, Registry Key).
NOTE. Authorization code is not necessary if you are transferring a .UK domain..
- Complete the checkout process.
- Your new registrar will send the confirmation email to the registrant email address of your domain.
- Approve the domain transfer and wait for the transfer to complete.
